My name is Eliel Sherman Storey and the publishing of the TRANSITION EAST website is to present perspectives, narratives and the diversity of artforms created by the African in America.
This web sites content is positioned to challenge the common notions and functions of the impact that art has on humanity. I’ve come to the conclusion to use art as “a revolutionary tool” designed to transmit cultural vision, identity, standards, ethics. Our intention is to bring art into the realm of healing the psychological damage that our particular history so badly need. It is important to highlight the contribution that the African in America have made in the area of art. This portal will bring forth necessary narratives that are inseparable to the art we create. The many movements that are being born today are the direct result of the disenfranchisement that we as a people continue to experience.

After living in Germany for 3 years I decided to return to my hometown of Chicago in 1991 where I found a lack of economic opportunity available to Black artists in general. My adaptive response as a musician became, how could I secure and make my music accessible to my people and use the music industry on my own terms. I began studying audio recording techniques also started to accumulate recording equipment. The final variable in my equation happened in 2003, when I purchased a mixed-use property in the South Chicago area.
Assisted by my brother William Storey whose extensive construction skill gave me the confidence to renovate the property and Transition East exists today as the intimate audio/visual recording environment able to facilitate multifaceted visions.

Most of the content presented on this website is music recorded and produced right here at TRANSITION EAST STUDIO, from 2004 to present. My prayer is for African American artists to recognize our cognitive dissonance that we allow other cultures to exploit our creations. The only answer that makes sense to me is for us to unify our collective visions with the intent to take control of our Art, and more important our narratives. TRANSITION EAST sets in the great void that can establish industry within our own community. In conclusion TRANSITION EAST mission is to expose the majesty of our African culture, and our responsibility as artists is to understand that through our Art the divinity of our culture is our greatest gift to our people and mankind.
